How it all started....

What happens if you love a place so much you wish you could paint it but you can't paint?

In 2009 I went to New York for the second time and this time I had a brand new camera. I spent the week shooting photos almost 24/7. Back in Brussels I had a few hundreds shots on my memory card and I couldn't wait to see the result on a big screen. The shots were good, some of them very good but I needed a way to create that idea of painting that was in my mind and it was the sum of all that I had seen and captured with the objective as a traveller. That's when I decided to take the best from the photos and put them together giving life to what could be called "painting by images". I selected, printed, manipulated photos, cut and arranged pieces of paper for days until I got my very first collage, the one you see in this very picture. This was the first though…I visited other countries and each place, each city has its special and peculiar atmosphere. This has triggered new ideas on how assembling what I now call "paper pixels" and  my work is a constant ongoing process…
